Travis L. Wheat, CPL - President & CEO
Born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas, Travis Wheat graduated from W.B. Ray High School in 2003 and went on to Texas Tech University where he was a member of the Red Raider football team, receiving Big 12 Conference All Academic as well as Dean’s List honors.
Wheat graduated with a double major in General Business and Management from the Jerry S. Rawls School of Business in 2007. He went on to receive the Petroleum Land Practices Certificate in the Energy Institute from the Neely School of Business at Texas Christian University in March of 2008.
Immediately following his graduation, Wheat started his career in oil and gas as a landman for Holland Acquisitions in downtown Fort Worth, leasing and running title for numerous operators in the Barnett Shale. He then went on to join with Kastner Land Services as a crew chief overseeing projects, curative, and eventually helping start up their West Texas branch.
In 2012, Travis founded Wheat Resources, LLC in Fort Worth and began leasing acreage and pursuing nonop working interest throughout West Texas primarily in the Delaware Basin. Wheat has put together several thousand acres and is continuing to grow their position in Reeves, Ward, Loving, and Howard Counties, as well as growing their interest in south Texas for the Eagle Ford, Buda, Austin Chalk and Vicksburg Massive formations.
He received his Certified Professional Landman Certificate in 2016 and has been an active member of the American Association of Professional Landmen since 2007. He is also a proud member of the American Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL), FWAPL, and DAPL.
In 2018 Travis founded Wheat Energy Partners, LLC with private equity and capital partner, Stronghold Resource Partners. Travis also formed Trigo Oil and Gas, LLC which serves as the mineral purchasing and operating branch.
Travis is also a co-founder, owner, and Advisory Board Member at Pediatric Home Health Care, LLC.
Travis currently resides in Dallas, Texas with his wife, Erica Wheat, and son, Travis Ford Wheat.
Erik Larson - Vice President of Land
After graduating from the University of Oklahoma, Erik began his career in oil and gas as a field landman, building runsheets and buying leases in Oklahoma and Kansas. After two years working exclusively for a broker, he moved to Shreveport and earned his first equity stake serving as the “boots on the ground” for a small Oklahoma City based group that was flipping Haynesville leases. When that ended, Erik moved to Fort Worth and began working for Paloma Resources as a field landman. Along with a colleague, Erik established the curative title department from scratch, which at one point handled 100% of Chesapeake’s Barnett curative work. After Paloma, he ran several crews for Waggoner Osborne Land Services and managed as many as 28 field landmen at one time.
In 2015, Erik and his business partner, Devin Speir, co-founded SL 2120 Ventures, L.L.C. Last year, SL 2120 Ventures acquired and divested more than 7,500 net acres in the Permian Basin. Erik has been involved with Wheat’s purchase of certain Delaware Basin assets since 2013.
Michael T. Vinson - General Counsel
A Texas Panhandle native, Michael Vinson left the Panhandle to attend school at the University of North Texas, and graduated in 2010 with a major in History and a minor in Political Science.
After teaching 7th grade social studies in Fort Worth, Texas for a year, Michael started his career as a landman in South Texas running title, leasing mineral owners, and curing title defects for Abstract & Title Resources, Inc. In 2012, he returned to the Texas Panhandle to work for McAfee Land Management, LLC in Amarillo, Texas, running title, leasing mineral owners, and curing title defects. From 2013 through 2014, Michael worked independently for several of his own clients, as well running title for Waggoner Osborne Land Services.
In August of 2014, Michael Began law school at Texas A&M School of Law in Fort Worth, Texas, earning his Juris Doctor in May of 2017. During his first year of law school, Michael obtained a position as a law clerk for Dawson Parrish, PC, where he became proficient in title law and was primarily responsible for conducting due diligence for projects and title opinions. During his second and third year of law school, in addition to working for the law firm, Michael also ran title for SL 2120 Ventures, LLC. In 2017, Michael formed Treadstone Resources, LLC, an oil and gas land company that specializes in title, curative, and lease acquisition.
Michael currently resides in Granbury, Texas with his wife, Andrea Vinson. They are both active members of Downtown Church of Christ in Granbury, Texas. Michael is licensed to practice law in the State of Texas.
Devin Speir - Vice President of Business Development
Devin Speir serves as Vice President of Business Development for Wheat Resources, LLC, responsible for developing growth and sustaining success of the company. Devin began his career as a landman over 10 years ago in the Permian Basin gaining experience along the way, covering all aspects of land including title, lease negotiation, right of way, curative and crew management.
Prior to joining Wheat, Devin co-founded SL 2120 Ventures, LLC, with Erik Larson in 2015. While operating under ‘2120’, Devin oversaw, managed and was involved in the acquisition and trade of over 15,000 acres in the Permian Basin.
Devin graduated from Texas Tech University, is a member of the Texas Tech Alumni Association, the American Association of Petroleum Landmen (RPL), and the Fort Worth Association of Petroleum Landmen.
